AEROPONICS! and other creations in process

Aeroponics Whitney Style

Our first aeroponic system didn't work due to the lack of being able to find a high enough pressure pump..well being able to afford one that is.  That project has been shelved..for now.  We plan on coming back to it next fall/winter.

Here is our current project.  It is a float table we will move outside for growing lettuce this spring and into summer.  It was made with a sheet of plywood and styrofoam and some 2x6's for the sides.  We used 6mil black plastic.  We will divide the styrofoam into sections..one for growing seedlings to a decent size and then sections for growing them out.  Not sure of numbers, but will have more pictures as we proceed.

The above table worked fairly well.  We had to set it up in the backyard though where it would get some shade as it was too hot in the greenhouse.  We had a problem with aphids with them being outside.  We put a small aquarium pump to aerate the water and to circulate it through the table.  Other than the aphids it worked well!  We did have to add additional support under the table because of the water's weight.

Dan has built a small aeroponic chamber to try getting blueberry cuttings to root.  Will try and get pictures of that here soon..too many projects and not time to take pictures!!
